Summer is here and it has tagged along a few problems. Suntan is known to be the major skin problem in summer season. Tanning tends to darken the skin and gives birth to many problems such as burning sensation, permanent damage, wrinkles, age spots, and other signs of premature ageing. Working women are mainly susceptible to skin tan, especially if their work involves a lot of travelling. The skin usually darkens due to over production of melanin under sun. The effect can’t be removed overnight. Here are some effective home remedies to get rid of sun tan:
This may sound as a clichéd method but there is no escape from it. Experts recommend at least up to 30 SPF before going out. You must apply sunscreen at least 15 SPF to keep your skin away from harsh effects of sun even when you are at home.
Aloe Vera Gel
Pluck some aloe vera leaves and squeeze out a little gel. Apply this on your face. This is a very effective and natural way of reducing discoloration of tanned skin. Apply this overnight.
Caution: Never apply aloe vera gel while going out in the sun as this can make your skin darker.
Sugar and Lemon
Using brown sugar brings better results. Mix sugar and lemon juice in equal quantities and apply on the face. You need to wait for about 20 minutes and then wash the face with water. Brown sugar is an excellent cleansing agent. It helps in mild scrubbing of skin. Lemon is great for curing sun tan. If you have dry skin, then you can add few drops of glycerin in this pack.
Apply raw potato juice to your face. This is an effective home remedy for de tanning. Apply a mixture of 1 tsp of lemon juice and 1 tsp of potato juice. Another effective method is to slice potatoes and place it on your face.
Papaya consists of enzymes that soften and heal the skin. Mashed ripe papaya also helps de-tan and cleanse your skin. You may even a little honey to the pulp prior to applying it to your skin.
Use dried and powdered orange peels to make a face pack. Mix orange peels with curd. Apply on your face. This will help you get rid of blemishes.
This is one of the favourite recipes among those who know how to get rid of sun tan. Buttermilk effectively removes sun tan. You can even prepare your own buttermilk. You need to dilute a cup of yogurt in water (about 2 liters) and blend well. Now apply this mixture on your tanned skin and rub it. This will give excellent results.
Try applying a mixture of natural oils such as sesame seed oil, olive oil and almond oil. You need to mix these in the ratio 4:1:1. Apply this oil on your skin for few minutes. Now remove the oil from your face by using gram flour (besan). This is a very effective natural remedy to get rid of suntan. It also enhances complexion.
This is a wonderful ingredient for de-tanning. Mix gram flour with curd. Apply it all over and when it dries wash it. You may apply this mixture twice a week.
Yoghurt and Lemon
Mix yoghurt with lemon juice and apply it on your skin daily before taking bath. This is known to be one of the best remedies for reducing tan.
