Week nineteen is a crucial period in your life. It is the time when your baby’s sensory development is at its peak. The development takes place in specialised areas of the brain. This is definitely a great moment for you as a mother.

Your Baby

As mentioned above, the week is marked by baby’s sensory development. It is exploding at the moment. The brain of the baby is designating specialized areas for senses like taste, smell, hearing, touch, and vision. The baby can hear voices from outside. The baby weighs about 8 1/2 ounces and measures 6 inches. It now measures the size of an heirloom tomato. The arms and legs are in the right proportions. The kidneys continue to make urine and the hair on the scalp is sprouting. Vernix caseosa, a waxy protective coating is forming on the baby’s skin.

Pregnancy Symptoms Week 19

You may experience aches and pains in abdomen. This is caused due to stretching of muscles to accommodate baby. As your baby increases in weight, you may experience certain level of back pain. Other symptoms include dizziness, light headedness, hip pain and leg cramps.

Tips

The back pain can be relieved via maintaining good posture and elevating feet while sleeping. You should avoid lifting heavy objects, sleeping on your back or standing for a long time at one place. Placing a small pillow under your side will also help. If you are suffering from leg cramps, extend your leg and flex your ankle and toes toward your knees. Try coaxing your partner to give you a relaxing calf massage! For hip pain, you must try sleeping on your side with a pillow between your knees.
