If you are a gay man it doesn’t mean you have to lead a family-less life. Just as any other man on earth, you have a right to be called a ‘dad’ and enjoy special moments with your own child. And the good news is – ‘it’s not difficult for gay men to have children of their own.” In fact, the options available to prospective gay parents are wider now than ever before.

The advanced society is having no qualms about sharing rapport with gay and lesbian friends. This is also the reason most medical experts believe that gay men and lesbians are in a wonderful position where having a child is an option.

However, it is crucial to think through the implications of starting a family. One needs to know what having a child means and the kind of responsibilities it tags along. For those in straight relationships, there are 4 major ways to choose from:

Co-parenting

This is a beautiful hassle free arrangement where a lesbian and a gay man team up to have child together. The man donates the sperm. Both parties share equal responsibility for and custody of their child. Legal advice is important in this case to avoid complications.

Donor insemination

This is a process that involves a man donating sperm to facilitate a woman inseminate herself. This can be single or in a relationship. This kind of insemination can be performed at home using sperm from a friend/ anonymous donor. Another option is to reach out to a reputed licensed fertility clinic. Make double sure that the semen is free from sexually transmitted infections and certain genetic disorders.

Surrogacy

This is a process where another woman has a baby for a couple who are unable to have a child themselves. It is a wonderful option if you’re a gay man. The surrogate mother’s egg can be fertilized by either you/your partner’s sperm.

Adoption

In most countries, it is lawful for same-sex couples to adopt a child together. All one needs to do is to apply for adoption through a local authority or an adoption agency.
