Advice and Precautions for Bikram Yoga

Starting off with Bikram Yoga? Here are some precautions you need to follow before you kickstart the practise session:

Drink Water

This is really important especially because you are supposed to be in a heated environment for a long time. Hence, there is a chance of dehydration if you don’t focus on supplying your body with adequate fluid. You are expected to perspire profusely. Hence, it is crucial to replace these fluids via taking plenty of water. Try to consume ample amount of water before the session starts. This will help you cope with the intensity of the exercise.

Light Stomach

Avoid coming to the class with a full stomach. Don’t eat 2 hours prior to the workout. Heavy stomach will make it very difficult to do Bikram Yoga poses.


You must take a quick rest in between class. Also don’t force yourself to do everything even if you feel something strange. In case, you feel dizzy or a feeling to faint, try to sit and relax. Sip a small amount of water.

Pay Attention

Pay attention to the instructor when you attend class. The instructor will guide you on the proper way of doing the positions. In case, you are too excited and wish to do it all alone, you may end up hurting yourself or doing it the wrong way. The will guide you.

Finish the Class

If you wish to get the best results, you need to attend the class from start till the end. Also there are poses that help you cool down and stretch which you need to complete to be able to benefit from the best. You need to calm yourself before leaving the session.


In case, you are under medical supervision or suffer from any underlying health issue you should consult your health care practitioner prior to attempting a short session of Bikram yoga.

Avoid Bikram Yoga

Bikram yoga is not recommended for pregnant women and children. Those suffering from hypertension problems should also avoid it. If you are a diabetic, consult your doctor prior to practicing yoga.

Leave the Room

Dizziness is very common while performing hot yoga. Beginners suffer from dizziness a lot. In case, you don’t feel well seriously, it is important that you leave the room until you feel better.


It is always better get your own mat because you may sweat a lot on it.
