Avoid Holding Breath
If you are suffering from breathing problems, it is important to avoid holding your breath (Kumbhaka) while performing Pranayama.
Learn and Practise
Practicing Yoga in wrong manner can affect your body adversely. Remember that some postures may leave adverse effects on various body parts. Hence, you need to do Yoga in a proper manner after learning the asanas. Also make sure you perform the asanas under the guidance of an experienced Yoga instructor to obtain better results.
If you are suffering from heart problem and high or low blood pressure, speak to a medical practitioner before starting off with a routine. Get a list of asanas that you can perform and those that are not fit for your health condition to be on safe side.
Don’t Mix and Match
Strictly avoid doing hard exercises such as cycling, jogging, swimming, and weightlifting right after Yoga. Also take a break for about 20 minute prior to starting these exercises.

Thereafter, you should perform Pranayama, Chittashuddhi and Yoga Nidra. Shuffling the sequence is not recommended.

The best time to practice Yoga is early morning or evening time. It is better to take asanas on an empty stomach. Practice Yoga at least after four hours of heavy meal. Meals can be taken after half-an-hour of practice.
Strictly avoid having excessive amount of caffeine based and aerated drinks such as tea, coffee, alcohols, soft drinks, etc. Also stay away from spicy fried food as they activate chemical toxins that lead to additional stress and illness.
Add a lot of salads, fresh fruits and fibers in your diet. It helps you stay fit and healthy.
Always wear clean and loose clothes while performing yoga.
